Please tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do.

I am originally from Albania, I moved to Canada in 2004. First and foremost, I am a mother of two wonderful children, and a wife to my great husband Don. I am a trained musician and I also work as a Private piano teacher. I love spending time doing my food art creations and have a close bond with my family back home with whom I talk to almost every day.

When and why did you start creating food art?

I started food art sometime last year after covid started. My daughter is a good eater, so I just did it for fun to make eating more interesting. I told myself I was going to do food art for 30 days as a challenge. I showed some pictures to my family and friends, and they all asked me to keep going and open an instagram account.

Why do you think creating food art is a way to get picky eaters and kids to eat healthy?

It is definitely more fun and interesting for kids. You can always introduce new food with the ones they usually eat in a fun way.
When my son turned two, I made my first big 3 layer fruit cake and there were a lot of different types of fruits. I was so surprised that my son was actually trying all the berries and enjoying them! Some of the berries he never wanted to try before.

What’s your favorite part of creating food art?

To be honest, I think the best part is the smile on my childrens faces when I’m creating the pieces from start to finish. I also genuinely enjoy the creativity aspect of making these pieces out of healthy food, and seeing people’s reactions when I post them online.

Any beginners advice you’d give to a mom who would like to start small food arts for her kids?

Definitely start with easy and simple figures. I would suggest an animal, a flower or a tree. I also would suggest you to include your children in the process and involve them hand on for making simple ones for starters. They really enjoy getting their hands in there lol.

Which creations have been your favorite so far?

I really enjoy all the food art. I started with plates and then I discovered veggie platters and watermelon carving which I love but I think overall I love making the fruit cakes
